Description:  The Mexico Public School District is accepting applications for the position of Assistant Superintendent. This is a 12-month position with benefits. Summary: The Assistant Superintendent is the liaison for Facilities, Food Service, and Technology and is responsible for coordination and oversight of the character, and quality of the Facilities, Food Service, and Technology program of the District. This person is responsible for recruiting and retaining high-quality staff, as well as overseeing and directing the facilities and transportation of the school district. This person is also responsible for the effective management of custodial service, grounds maintenance, building maintenance, and renovation (including construction) activities of the district. Responsibilities include presenting and interpreting program content and data to the Board of Education, professional staff, parents, and the community at large. Reports To: Superintendent of Schools QUALIFICATIONS: Shall meet all state certification requirements with a Specialist Degree preferred. 4 years of teaching experience Prior experience in school administration is preferred. The Board of Education reserves the right to waive these qualifications if, in its judgment, a candidate has equivalent qualifications and/or experience. REPORTS TO: Superintendent of Schools PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: Manages & Oversees all aspects of Federal Programs Works with the transportation, technology, and food service as the liaison between the district and entities regarding each department. Plans, directs, controls, and monitors the implementation of facility maintenance, grounds maintenance, and custodial operations of the school district. Assists in the research and purchase of parts for repairs. Develops policies and procedures to ensure that building improvement activities provide economical school facilities that conform to building codes, government regulations, and educational requirements and make effective use of available space. Assists in the evaluation of proposals and bids for materials, equipment, contracted repairs, and services for the facility operations and technology department. Oversees and monitors annual operating and capital budgets for departmental activities. Initiates, plans, directs and monitors construction. Coordinates and directs contact with architect and general contractor for warranties and job completion. Oversees projects to ensure compliance with specifications and deadlines. Oversees schedules and payment dispersals. Schedule work and inspect quality. Oversees Budget as it applies to the scope of work and orders parts and equipment as required. Acts as liaison to ensure physical security of facilities by installing and maintaining locks, and acts as liaison with local law enforcement authorities and Emergency Management for building security. Coordinate and monitor building fire, tornado, earthquake, intruder, and other disaster drills. Participates in the Short- and Long-Range Plan development which includes the construction, repair, and individual departments. Other Duties: Attends Board meetings and prepares such reports for the Board as the Superintendent may request. Enhances the public information program by serving as one of the educational leaders responsible for the interpretation of the school program to the public. Establishes and maintains cooperative relationships with parents and community groups. Assists in the selection and evaluation of building principals and directors. Considers, plans, and evaluates all requests from school personnel for projects and programs requiring federal, state, business, and foundation grants as recommended by building administrators. Assumes responsibility for the following: Federal Programs (Title I, II, III, IV, V, VI) EL Liaison Coordinator Foster Liaison Coordinator Surrogate Parent Coordinator Homeless Coordinator Compliance Coordinator for Title IX and Americans with Disabilities Act Supervises the district's new teacher orientation and mentor program. Develops, implements, interprets, and communicates the results of the district's testing program to the school staff, Board of Education, and other interested parties. Supervises the scheduling, administering, scoring evaluating, and budgeting of system-wide group testing programs. Supervises preparation of attendance reports and similar data Keeps current with educational developments and all legal requirements governing education. Coordinates the summer school program for all grade levels: determining the dates, meeting with the administrators, getting the plans for each level, personnel hired, and overseeing the budget. Makes recommendations to the Board concerning the transportation of pupils in accordance with the law and the requirements of safety. Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
