Description:  Mexico Public Schools is now accepting applications for a Bulldog Alternative Education Teacher position at the Mexico Middle School for the 2024-2025 school year. QUALIFICATIONS: Proper certification for Missouri REPORTS TO: Principal TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: New teachers 185 (includes 4 holidays) days with benefits provided according to Mexico Public Schools. New teachers are required to attend New Teacher Week in addition to the 185 days. SUMMARY: The teacher is responsible for creating a classroom environment favorable to learning and personal growth of students enrolled in an alternative education setting; establishing effective rapport with students; motivating students to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for becoming a responsible citizen in accordance with each student’s ability; and to establish good relationships with parents and with other staff members. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TYPICAL TASKS: Program Management: Evaluates academic and social growth of students, maintains grade reports, and keeps appropriate records to include attendance reports, checklists, and other recordkeeping activities as necessary. Works collaboratively with teachers, administrators, parents, school and agency counselors and related service providers in the overall educational plan for students enrolled in the alternative education setting. Assists in the development and implementation of an individual education service and transition plan for students enrolled in the alternative education setting. Communicates regularly with parents or guardians through conferences and other means to discuss student progress. Academic Responsibilities: Facilitates provided academic instruction for students which meets objectives and prepares students to master grade level standards. In collaboration with the teacher of record, develops supplementary lesson plans and materials compatible with the basic instructional philosophy and congruent with course standards; provides individualized and small group instruction in order to meet the needs of each student. Translates lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction and to actively engage students. Administers standardized testing in accordance with district testing practices. Social/Emotional/Behavioral Responsibilities: Instructs students in citizenship and social emotional learning skills. Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom by providing positive reinforcement of acceptable behaviors and modifying unacceptable behaviors. Supervises and monitors student movement and escorts students as needed to resources, bathrooms, buses, cafeteria, room changes and other activities in the building.
