The Hallsville District, a four-day calendar school, is accepting applications for an In-School Support Teacher for the 2024-2025 school year. ISS teachers are expected to sponsor or coach at least two activities. We currently have openings in football that we are looking to fill. PURPOSE This position is responsible for classroom instruction and training in a variety of subject areas. The ISS Monitor position is responsible for ensuring that students who are placed in the In-School Support Program work on study habits, classroom behavior skills, and a positive self-image. This position is also responsible for coordinating student receipt and completion/progress of classroom assignments and activities. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES Coordinates, provides, and supervises instructional and behavioral activities for students assigned to ISS. Coordinates assignments and activities with classroom teachers of referred students; provides tutorial assistance as needed and monitors students’ class work while in ISS. Assists students in examining misbehavior and developing strategies to prevent recurrences. Works with other school personnel to assist students in the development of techniques to control and express anger constructively, encourage positive student behavior, and promote safety in the school. Assigns and oversees additional assignments related to student infractions. Contacts parents regarding student conduct and behavior modification plans. Communicate proactively with teachers to inform them of student issues and conversations with parents. Responds to emails and phone calls from school leaders and teachers in a timely manner. Assists with the distribution of supplies, materials, and equipment, including technology. When in a school-based learning environment, monitor students’ movement throughout the building to other classrooms, learning areas, and cafeteria. Assists administrators and other staff members in the orderly, expedient, and safe transition of students from one location to another. Engages in professional learning opportunities in-person. Required to have prompt, regular attendance in-person and be available to work on-site, in-person during regular business hours. Performs other duties as assigned by an appropriate administrator or their representative. Other Skills and Abilities: Identify needs and abilities of individual students and to adapt instructional methods accordingly; Establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers and parents; Perform multiple tasks simultaneously. Technology: Integrate technology into daily instruction; present information to students using a variety of media; Access and present information from online sources in a manner that enhances instruction; lead and monitor students as they perform online research; Lead students in creating and presenting multimedia projects when such assignments enhance student learning; Use district software for recording grades and finding student information; Readily utilize smart boards, projectors and other instructional technology provided by the district; Adhere to all District policies and procedures regarding technology use. Physical Demands: An individual who holds this position must have the ability to: Speak and hear in an environment where numerous conversations and activities may be taking place simultaneously; Move around the classroom to interact with and manage students/groups of students; Read handwritten or printed material. Attendance: Consistent and regular attendance is an essential function of this position. Conditions and Environment: The individual who holds this position will regularly work in a school environment that is noisy and active. Occasionally the individual will be required to work outdoors for short periods of time to perform such tasks as loading and unloading students from district transportation.
