Description:  POSITION TITLE:  Parents As Teachers Parent Educator - Part-Time ***ALL applicants must apply here: https://www.applitrack.com/wpsd/onlineapp/default.aspx?all=1 *** QUALIFICATIONS:  Degree in early childhood education or related field of study preferred.  Must obtain and maintain required certification as a parent educator. REPORTS TO:  Building or District Administrator TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  This is a part-time salaried position for the 2024-25 school year, with visits occurring from 8/1/24 - 5/1/25.  The Parent Educator is to complete 30 visits per month, approximately 20 hours per week.  Work hours are established by home visit appointments, screenings, group events, and office hours as determined by staff.  Work hours are not based on the school calendar, and may occur outside the normal school day. JOB GOAL:  To provide the education, support and encouragement parents need to help their children develop optimally during the crucial early years of life.  Candidates must demonstrate the ability to work with parents and their young children. Duties include home visiting, administering developmental screenings and facilitating family events.  Computer skills are necessary for documentation of work. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 1. Demonstrates and imparts knowledge of child development, child rearing practices and age appropriate activities. 2. Instructs parents on relevant information regarding child development, language, motor and social skills and age appropriate milestones during visits scheduled mornings, afternoons, and evenings. 3. Models and teaches appropriate verbal interactions, communication techniques, and behavior management techniques between parent and child. 4. Instructs and supports parents in developing strategies for strengthening their effectiveness. 5. Addresses parent concerns, research information, and connect parents to community resources as needed. 6. Implements the approved Parent as Teachers curriculum. 7. Monitors progress of child’s development. 8. Conducts health and developmental screenings for children on an annual basis. 9. Provides verbal and written summaries of screening results to parents. 10. Recognizes and inform on behavior and/or development of child that deviates from expected norms. 11. Develops intervention strategies for areas of concern and provide appropriate information for parents. 12. Makes appropriate referrals for additional evaluations or screenings as needed. 13. Provides information on child development to client families. 14. Maintains files to include records of all screenings. 15. Maintains program records for submittal for state reimbursement. 16. Maintains accurate mileage and student contact for reporting. 17. Establishes good rapport and maintains an on-going positive relationship with each family in the program through active listening, encouragement, guidance and feedback. 18. Demonstrates positive interpersonal relations with district personnel and outside agencies. 19. Participates in professional growth activities as required by district policy and PAT certification requirements. 20. Follows the policies and procedures of the school district. 21. Demonstrates a sense of professional responsibility and exercises thoughtful independent judgement and discretion. 22. Participates in the planning and presentation of group connections meetings throughout the school year.
